15) Keep important documents you need separate

If you’re storing paperwork, use a sealed plastic container and label it clearly. Better yet, keep truly critical documents with you (IDs, passports, contracts).

16) Think about security and access

A good facility will have strong security measures to help keep your belongings safe and make access easier in your storage unit, but you still want to do your part:

• Use a solid lock
• Don’t leave valuables in unmarked bags

17) Take 5 photos before you close the door
